COBRACOBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) gives employees and their families the right to continue group health and dental coverage under their group plan for limited periods of time.

Qualifying events for continuation of coverage include: voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in hours worked, death, divorce, and over-age dependents.

Qualified individuals may be required to pay the entire premium plus administration charges.

Some states have continuation laws that apply to groups that fall below the COBRA threshold. Please refer to the State Department of Insurance website.
